Hackney New Sixth Form Entry & Admissions Criteria for September 2016

Seven GCSE passes at grades A* - B, including English Language and Mathematics at grade B is the basic entry requirement to join the Sixth Form. For individual A level requirements, please see the table below. We will also make a calculation of each student’s APS (Average Points score) at GCSE, when guiding and advising them on their A level choices, based on the following values:

A* = 8, A = 7, B = 6, C = 5, D = 4, E = 3, F = 2, G = 1 to work out GCSE Average Points Score (APS)

Entry Requirements:

  • Both Physics and Chemistry require A grades in Mathematics GCSE
  • A level Physics students must also study A level Mathematics

Art & Design

A* - B in Art or Design GCSE subject;
A* - B in English

Biology

AA+ in ‘Double Science’ (A in Biology modules in Core & Additional Science) A in Single Science Biology;
B in Mathematics

Chemistry

AA+ in ‘Double Science’ (pupils must also have grade A in Chemistry modules of Core and Additional Science); or two A grades in Triple Science, one must be Chemistry.
A grade in Mathematics

Economics

A* - B in English Language,
A* - B in Mathematics

English Literature

A* - B in English Language and English Literature

Government & Politics

A* - B in English Language, History (if studied at GCSE);
A* - B or A* - B in another Humanities subject

History

A* - B in History (or another Humanities subject);
A* - B in English Language

Mathematics

A/A* in Mathematics

Further Mathematics A* in Mathematics
French/
Spanish

A*/A in French/Spanish

Music

A*/A in Music, Grade 5+ in ABRSM Theory

Physics

AA+ in ‘Double Science’ (pupils must obtain a A/A* grade in Physics modules of Core and Additional) or grades AAB in Triple Science (one must be Physics at grade A);
A/A* grade in Mathematics. Students studying Physics must also study Mathematics A level
