Steering Committee

The Hackney New School will be launched by a Steering Committee of local people with the support of a wider advisory group. Steering Committee members are:

	Andreas Wesemann is a corporate finance adviser. He is the publisher of Chronicle of a Downfall. Germany 1929-39, a book about inter-war Germany. He lives in Dalston, Hackney and is a shareholder of The Scolt Head, a local pub. Andreas was born in Vienna and has lived in England for 20 years. He was educated at Pembroke College, Cambridge and the London School of Economics.
	Sophie Solomon is a violinist, composer and Artistic Director of the Jewish Music Institute, University of London. She is a musical educationalist who has taught at the School of Oriental and African Studies, the Royal Academy of Music and Weimar Conservatoire. She has recorded as a solo artist for Decca and performed with artists as diverse as Paul Weller, Rufus Wainwright and the London Symphony Orchestra. Her theatrical compositions include Our Class (National Theatre) and Off the Endz (Royal Court). She is also a strategy consultant with a particular focus on new business models and branding in social media and the music industry. She has a First Class degree in History and Russian from University College, Oxford and an MSc in Economic History from the London School of Economics.
	Phillippa De'Ath is now the HNS Programme Director, working to open HNS in 2013. She has extensive experience in helping large organisations drive through change in technology, organisation and culture. She is also the manager of a web-based parents' community across London and works for a children's charity in Islington & Hackney. Phillippa lives in London Fields, Hackney. She was educated at University of Cambridge in Natural Sciences.
	Andrew Tetlow graduated from Manchester University and is an Architect Director of Deep Blue Architects. Prior to setting up the practice he worked for internationally acclaimed Grimshaw Architects on the award-winning £170 million Excel Phase 2 Exhibition Centre. He has lived in De Beauvoir, Hackney, for the last five years and also runs his architectural practice from Hackney. The practice has experience in residential, commercial, master-planning and regeneration and educational sectors and works around the UK, focussing on contemporary environmental design. Andrew has experience in all stages of building design from establishing the brief, through to post occupation analysis
	Jan Culley has worked as a teacher in inner London schools for more than 25 years. Originally an English teacher, she has worked successfully as a SENCO, and as a Senior Leader for the last 8 years, in the boroughs of Islington, Hackney and Tower Hamlets. In addition, Jan has worked as an SEN consultant, developed a successful extended schools initiative, been a guest speaker at the University of East London and spoken at Pan London education and Youth Justice Board forums. She is currently a Deputy Head at Tower Hamlets PRU, responsible for the quality of teaching and the professional development of staff.
